Keeping Our City Safe with Securus Technologies
I am currently working in law enforcement and specialize in the fugitive task force. These suspects are extremely dangerous, and getting them into the jails as quickly as possible is something that will benefit the entire community and state. My job has been getting harder over the years as these suspects have gotten help from local gangs to keep them on the run and help them to escape the long arm of the law.
We used to be able to monitor family and friends of the suspect, but with the help of the gang, they could be hiding in a number of places without us ever knowing. These gang members on the lowest levels are always trying to impress the leaders, so if they can frustrate the police and keep a dangerous felon on the streets, they feel like they are earning street credibility.
Our latest weapon against these fugitives is inside the jail if you can believe that. When Securus Technologies, and CEO Rick Smith, decided to work with our prison to install the latest in inmate phone systems, we were excited to get on board. Securus Technologies is based out of Texas, and the 1,000 employees are working hard towards one objective, keeping the world safer for all of us.
I was trained to use the system and the LBS software, and right away I began to see results. These gang leaders that are still conducting business from jail need to communicate to the gang members on the street, so they think using the phones is a matter of simply coding their terminology.
In the past, this was frustrating for my team, but today we can decipher those codes more easily. We are now able to figure out what the inmates are saying about hiding fugitives, getting them a new identity, and helping to transport them out of the country and away from the law.
